5th International Seminar on Rethinking Social Science Teaching: Historical-Geographical Competencies for the Formation of Inclusive Identities

Project leaders Luis Miguel Lázaro and Andrés Payà presented the paper "Training Global Citizens in National Contexts: The Role of Teachers" at the 5th International Seminar "Rethinking Social Sciences Teaching: Historical-Geographical Competencies for the Formation of Inclusive Identities," held at the University of Valencia on June 3 and 4, 2025.

This Seminar, addressed the contribution of Social Sciences Teaching to the process of constructing collective identities (national, gender, affective-sexual, political-ideological) from an inclusive perspective, focusing on both discourses and representations, as well as the practices and processes of socialization that derive from them. In this regard, attention has been paid to curricular frameworks and teaching materials, as well as to teaching activities, classroom proposals/experiences, student learning, and teacher training in relation to three axes or thematic areas:

National identities for the development of critical citizenship
Gender identities for an egalitarian society
Sociopolitical identities for the development of a democratic memory
